Our Mission

The purpose of the Marin Energy Authority (MEA) is to address climate change by reducing energy related greenhouse gas emissions and securing energy supply, price stability, energy efficiencies and local economic and workforce benefits. It is the intent of the MEA to promote the development and use of a wide range of renewable energy sources and energy efficiency programs, including but not limited to solar and wind energy production at competitive rates for customers.

MEA Activities

The first activity of the MEA Board will be the consideration of a Community Choice Aggregation (CCA) program. Other programs that aid in complying with AB32, the global warming solutions act, will also be considered as appropriate.

For an overview of recent activities undertaken by the MEA Board, please refer to the MEA Report to Member Jurisdictions.

A current timeline summarizing previous, current, and future activities of MEA is availalbe here..

Power Purchase Agreement (PPA)

The Marin Energy Authority solicited proposals for electric power supply services to serve retail electric customers that will participate in a CCA Program promoting the use of renewable energy to serve select communities in Marin County, California. The MEA and residents of the Marin Communities refer to this CCA Program as Marin Clean Energy (MCE).

Twelve bids were submitted in response to MEA's Request For Proposals released in May. For more details, please see the following Press Release.

For more information on the PPA, please see the Key Documents page.

The staff of MEA have made an initial recommendation to the Board of Directors of that the Board determine at its February 4, 2010 meeting when the draft PPA is scheduled for final consideration that this Agreement is categorically exempt from the California Environmental Quality Act.
